After-afterthought / Steelman #2: There may be a market price worth paying (in transaction fees) for the ability to make stable-value transactions when your other options for transacting are useless e.g. Venezuelan Bolívars.

But this steelman is rusty:

  1. I think we should clearly be aiming for a future that eliminates large-scale instability for entire nations of people. Technologies that thrive on this kind of privation might be dangerous.
  2. If a country is unstable, each citizen’s access to technology and the internet is most likely unstable too. USD under a mattress probably does a better, simpler job for people in that situation than a wallet.dat
